                                                                      CHILD AND FAMILY SPONSORING

Tunajali strives to support the families in Materuni Village that urgently require help. Their struggles include lack of money for the basics such as food, uniform and school equipment.

Here is an overview of the costs for one child per year:

  • Uniform: 25 USD

  • School equipment (bag, pens, pencils, books, ruler, mathematical sets, etc.): 15 USD

  • Food contribution: 15 USD

They have also a big need for clothes to wear after school and often there is not enough food at home either.

We kindly ask you to consider joining our sponsorship programmed.

You can pledge any amount, whether that be a one-off amount or monthly/yearly donation. We can spread your donation throughout the community, benefiting all of the children below, or you can opt to sponsor an individual child. You can read each child’s situation in the pages below and why they would love your support.

The team at Tunajali ensure all of your money reaches the children you wish to help. We help and arrange with the purchasing of clothes, school uniform, food and school equipment; delivering them directly to the families.

The children you help wish to return their thanks through keeping a dialogue with their sponsors, sending you letters and updates on their goals and achievements.

To sponsor, please get in contact us HERE or donate through our Crowdfunding page which is now LIVE! https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/tunajalitanzania

Good afternoon. My name is NOEL ERASMOS MATERU, from Materuni Village found in Kilimanjaro, Moshi villages - Uru Mashariki.  I have been a child of single parent (Mother) since I was two years old (2000). A last born from a a family of four children, I’m thanking God for where I am now. I’m currently studying at SAUT university Mwanza. I completed My O Level and Advance education under the sponsorship of SACCOS and some of my neighbors. Currently I’m a third year student, however I am facing some difficulties to pursue my studies. Even though I benefited from a HESLB loan, I still need some money to complete the school fees. The school fees were 1,510,000 TZS and I am currently missing 360,000 TZS. During the first and second year I used a BOOM ADVANCE loan offered by CRDB Bank. The system is unfortunately not available to the final year students anymore. Our university examination shall begin on 4/7/2022. Only the ones who have paid the school fees in full are eligible to take the exam.  Humbly, I solicit your help that will enable me complete my Tuition Fees of 360,000 TZS (USD 160). I would be happy to count you as part of those who helped me complete my studies and lifted me up to catch my dreams and goals.

Gloria and Eligi Eujn Maro

Mambo!
We are Gloria and Eligi. Together with our parents we live in the beautiful village Materuni. We like our village, but somehow it’s hard for families here because the chances to find a job are very low. Our parents are farmers, which secures our food and generates a small income. Still, it is hard to get enough money to fund our education. Especially when Eligi finishes primary school soon, it will be difficult for our parents because the costs for secondary schools are much higher. At the moment, we both attend Wondo Primary School. Eligi is in Pre-Form 1 and Gloria in Standard 3. Since we are growing up in a religious family, our career aspirations have something to do with the church: Eligi wants to become a priest and Gloria a sister.

We would be very happy to find a sponsor for our education.

Ahsante sana!

Amani, Faraja and Janeth Tumahini Shirima

Habari!
We are Amani (but everyone just calls me Amos), Faraja and Janeth. We live together with our parents in Materuni village, Kilimanjaro.

Our mother is working as a chef in a local kitchen (you can see her in the background of Amos’ picture) where they provide local lunch for tourists. She gets an income, but especially since the pandemic, the income is small and irregular. Unfortunately, our father is jobless.

At the moment Amani is still at home, but he will go to kindergarten in 2022.

Faraja is a pupil of standard 3 at Wondo Primary School. She wants to become a sister when she’s grown up.

Janeth is a student of form 2 at Mruwia Secondary school. Her dream is to be a teacher.

It would mean the world to us if you would help our family and support us in our education.

Anna Keya Salu

Hi,

My name is Anna Keya Salu and I am 17 years old. I was born and raised in a village called Soya. My parents were animal keepers. In our community families often don’t value education, especially to girls. After my mother passed away in 2017 my father wanted me to get married at the age of 13 years. Luckily I got the chance to join a certain family in Babati to help them with housework instead of getting married. Also there I got the chance to attend primary school. I have now passed my primary final examination. My dream is to continue with secondary school. Unfortunately, the family where I stay with can’t afford to pay for my secondary school expenses like uniform, stationery and food contribution.

I would be really happy to get you as my sponsor. Ahsante sana!

Winifrida Sadikieli Shirima

Mambo! My name is Winifrida Sadikieli Shirima and I am 8 years old. I am a Year 2 pupil at Kirunda Primary School. I live together with my relative Junior and his grandparents in Materuni village, Kilimanjaro. My parents disappeared a couple years ago and they do not care about me. I know it is not easy for Junior’s grandparents to take care of us both whilst also supporting our education. I am very thankful that they gave me the chance to live with them and I hope to repay them in the future. My goal is to attend university and graduate as a doctor. A good education is therefore the most important thing for me. I would be delighted to have your sponsorship. Ahsante sana!

Beatrice Castor

Habari! My name is Beatrice Castor and I am 37 years old with 3 children who depend on me. We all live in Materuni village near Moshi, where I work as a subsistence farmer. I desperately need some support for my family as our house is in such bad condition that I worry it could fall down at any moment. I would feel so much safer if I could renovate the house or build a new one to accommodate us, but I currently lack the funds. Your support would allow me to employ a worker to help me rebuild my house and any extra would go to providing facilities inside. We do not have a toilet nor a mattress to sleep on or the warmth of bed sheets and blankets. This is something my lovely children deserve and it saddens me that I cannot provide it for them. Ahsante sana.

Flora Fredrick Shirima (17)

Habari! My name is Flora Fredrick Shirima and I am 17 years old. I live in Materuni village together with my grandmother. I was sadly abandoned following my birth, when my parents realised that I was disabled – I am both mentally and physically disabled. I am not able to eat, drink, go to school or even go to toilet by myself. This means I am always in our house, either in my bed or in my wheelchair. I am very fortunate to have a wheelchair but this cannot be used outside the house because the paths and streets in the village are not suitable.

As a result of my situation, I am dependent upon the support of my grandmother in every situation of life. It is very important to stretch my arms and legs every day but it is very painful, so I need to access physiotherapy in order to train my body posture and musculature. I also require daily medication, diapers and food at home. The food comes from our small garden, but the other essentials are hard to obtain as my grandmother lacks the money. She is not able to work due to caring for me daily yet the bills remain the same:

· Food for a month: $15

· Medicine for a month: $5

· Diapers for a month: $15

· Physiotherapy for a month: $35

With your support, we hope to be able to get by. Please help us if you can. Ahsante sana!

Lilian Gadiel Shirima

Hello, my name is Lilian Gadiel Shirima and I’m 10 years old. I am a Year 4 pupil at Wondo Primary school. I live with my mother and my younger sister Cecilia at Materuni village in Moshi, Kilimanjaro. I know how hard it is for my mother labouring to provide food, so I try to help her at home as much as possible. With no source of income within our family, I want to try and receive a good education as this will determine my future. Receiving your support would allow my mother to worry less and give me the chance to learn and hopefully teach others in the future.

Hi! We are cousins Philipo and Janeth. We are 11 years old and attend Year 5 at Wondo Primary School. We live together with our grandmother, Philipo’s father and our mentally disabled aunt in Materuni village near Moshi. They all work as subsistence farmers to feed our family. Our grandma is very old but she’s still working on the field to provide enough food for us. It is very hard for them to pay for our education, even when they know it is very important. We kindly ask for your sponsorship, it would mean the world to us if we could be given the chance to receive a good education.

My father died when I was only 2 weeks old so my mother, Domitila Ivone (37) is the only person to look after me. She is a subsistence farmer with no income. Your support would provide me with a school uniform (sweater, shirt, skirt, shoes and socks) and also school equipment (books, bags, pen, pencil, ruler and crayons). Mambo! I’m Gloria Evans Lyimo but my family calls me Angel. I am 8 years old and I study at Wondo Primary School in Materuni Village as a Year 3 pupil. I live with my grandparents and my cousin Samwel Lazaro Chuwa in a small house within the village. My mom had me when she was a teenager and although we remain in contact she is now working in Dar es Salaam. She just about earns enough to get by but life there is complicated and she struggles to support me financially. I live with my very loving grandparents as I do not know my father. They are subsistence farmers in our village purely because their age means it is difficult to work elsewhere. It is very hard for them to support me in my education and I really need a new school uniform, school equipment and financial support for the food contribution within school. It would be really nice to receive your sponsorship, meaning my grandparents can worry less about giving me opportunities for the future.

Samwel Lazaro Chuwa

Jambo! My name is Samwel Lazaro Chuwa and I am a 7 year old student at Wondo Primary School. I live with my grandparents and my cousin Gloria. Prior to becoming pregnant, my mother married a local man, believing they could create a happy family unit. Sadly, not long after my birth she separated from my father because of his alcohol problems that led to many disputes between them. She then disappeared to Dar es Salaam and left me with my grandparents because she thought I would have a better life in the village compared to a life in Dar es Saalam. My grandparents are subsistence farmers and do not earn enough to support my education. Your sponsorship would allow for me to have my own school uniform and contribute to the food bill at school. I would be very happy to receive your support for my education and it would also be a gift for my grandparents who know that education is so important for my life. Ahsante Sana!

I live with my relative Winifrida and my grandparents, as my parents disappeared and have no interest in my life. My grandparents sell bananas to provide a small income to support our family. I know the importance of education, it is vital if I want to get the job I hope for. I would be really happy to receive your support and in return will keep you updated on my progression to becoming a soldier. Ahsante sana!

My mother became pregnant when she was a teenager and could not take care of me by herself. Luckily I have my great grandparents who take care of me very lovingly. They are however too old to work on the farm, so we are reliant on the small quantity of food available from the garden. My mother has a small garden at home that supports our daily meal requirements but often it is not really enough. My biggest needs are better nutrition at home, good clothes and shoes for church and home wear. I would also love some books on exercise science and a school uniform would be fantastic. Queen Moses Justa Mpowe

Mambo,

I am Queen and I’m a 7-year-old girl from Materuni village. I live together with my cousins Norah (8) and Erick (18) and our grandparents. My mother is working as a maid in Dar es Salaam to earn a small income. I have no contact with my father, he disowned me when I was a baby.

Even though our grandparents are quite old, they still work as subsistence farmers to feed our family. As you can imagine, it’s hard for them to provide all of us and to pay for our education. But they really want us to have a better future, so they try everything they can to give us a good education.

Right now, I am a pupil of standard 1 at Wondo Primary School and I wish to be a teacher when I’m grown up and to support my grandparents like they support me now.

It would help us a lot if you could be my sponsor.

I was put out of school due to lack of school fees and  my parents have no chance to support me with my further education because they are only subsistence farmers; they do not earn enough money to fund my school fees. I would like to be a teacher when I grow up, I also like farming, growing flowers and cooking. So I need help from any person or institution to fund my education in terms of school fees, school materials, food at home and school uniform which it costs 60$ per year.

I wish to have a better life in the future to support my parents and my young sister, I know education is the key to this. I would be so happy if YOU could help me to reach my goals.

Beatrice Sephania Mauki

Mambo!

My name is Beatrice, but most people call me Noreen. I’m 9 years old and a pupil of standard 3 at Kirunda primary school in Materuni village. My dream is to become a doctor when I’m grown up. Therefore, my education is very important for me.

I lived with my mother in Materuni village until I was 6 years old. She passed away 3 years ago due to a traffic accident with a motorbike and my father has no interest in my life. Fortunately, a retired pastor and his wife took me into their family after the accident. They are friends of my mother’s family and take good care of me. It would help us a lot to find a sponsor for my education to reduce my family’s worries.

Ahsante sana.
